Instructor Courses
Course Description
Health Educational Services provides a curriculum to enable individuals or, your organization's in-house staff, the ability to achieve and maintain their instructor credentials with the American Heart Association. The American Heart Association Instructor Courses will provide instructor candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach potential students in the discipline of the instructors’ course taken.
American Heart Association Instructor Courses disciplines available are:

Basic Life Support (BLS) *
-
Heartsaver CPR AED, Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED and Pediatric First Aid. +

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
-
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

* BLS Instructors will be authorized to teach any Heartsaver Course in addition to BLS courses.
+ Heartsaver Instructors will be authorized to teach Heartsaver Courses only.
Pre-Requisites:

Current AHA provider card in the discipline of the instructors’ course attending.

Letter of sponsorship from a Community Training Center stating that candidate is accepted into the training center.

Letter from the Training Center Coordinator of the Training Center the Instructor Candidate will be aligned with stating he/she will monitor the candidate’s first class taught within 6 months of completion of instructors course.
The purpose of this course is to become an instructor. Therefore, if it has been a while since you have taken or reviewed the provider information, please do so prior to the course. All instruction will be according to the current AHA Guidelines.

The overall class will be done in three phases:
Phase 1: will be to complete the online Instructor Essentials Course. The online key code will be issued to the candidate upon registration. You must bring completion certificate to class.
Phase 2: is the classroom portion.
Phase 3: will be conducting a course while being successfully monitored within six (6) months of taking the classroom portion. It is your responsibility to set up a class to be monitored.
