Instructor Training

 

 

The American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor Course will provide instructor candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach potential Basic Life Support Providers and Heartsaver CPR AED, Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED and Pediatric First Aid.  Health Educational Services provides a curriculum to enable individuals or, your organization's in-house staff, the ability to achieve and maintain their instructor credentials with the American Heart Association. ++

 

Pre-Requisites:

  • Current CPR Provider card. The provider card must be a current 2015 Guidelines AHA Healthcare Provider or BLS

  • Letter of sponsorship from a Community Training Center stating that candidate is accepted into the training center

  • Letter from a Regional Faculty or Training Center Faculty member stating he/she will monitor your first class taught within 6 months of completion of instructors course.

The purpose of this course is to become an instructor in BLS. Therefore, if it has been a while since you taken or reviewed your BLS skills, please do so prior to the course. All instruction will be according to the 2015 Guidelines. 

The overall class will be done in three phases.

  • Phase 1 will be to complete the online BLS Instructor Essentials Course. (Must bring certificate to class)

  • Phase 2 is the classroom portion as described above and,

  • Phase 3 will be conducting a course while being successfully monitored within six (6) months of taking the classroom portion. It is your responsibility to set up a class to be monitored.

BLS Instructors will be authorized to teach BLS as well as Heartsaver  level classes.
